OVERVIEW

Evy Jokhova (b. 1984, Switzerland) grew up in Vienna, Austria. As a child she spent a significant amount of time traveling to see family in Estonia, Soviet and post-Soviet Russia. This multi-cultural background, exposure to diverse social and political structures in altering states of flux and stability and the complex relationships between the perceived, the imagined and the accepted norms inform her work. Themes of human co-existence and cooperation are also often referenced

She is a graduate of MA Political Communications, Goldsmiths College and MA Fine Art, Royal College of Art. Jokhova is the recipient of the numerous awards including Royal Academy Schools Fellowship, Royal British Society of Sculptors Bursary Award, Arts Council Individual Grants Award, Wien Kultur Funding and Amsterdam Fonds voor Kultur (AFK) Grant. Residencies include Belvedere Museum Vienna/21er Haus (AT), YARAT Contemporary Art Space (AZ), BijlmAIR Amsterdam (NL), Villa Lena (IT), Nida Art Colony, (LT), Florence Trust (UK) amongst others. Solo projects include: Weighed down by stones, Lily Brooke, London; I dance for you my edifice, l’etragere, London (both 2018); The Shape of Ritual, commissioned by Belvedere Museum Vienna, AT (2017); Towering in the conditions of fragments, Passengers, London, UK (2017); Staccato a site-specific installation in the House of St Barnabas presented by Marcelle Joseph Projects, UK (2016).
