FREESTYLE: UNLIMITED PROGRAMME – TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

08 Oct - 15 Oct 18

The British Council in partnership with YARAT Contemporary Art Space organise a series of training within the Unlimited programme, bringing together abled and disabled practitioners from Azerbaijan during 8 - 15 October 2018 at YARAT. Both training will be run by Caryne Chapman Clark, actress, theatre deviser and workshop leader committed to using theatre as a tool for social change. The central aim of the project is to give a voice and visibility to abled and disabled performers by using a variety of different theatre techniques, storytelling and improvisation.

3 DAY INTERACTIVE THEATRE TRAINING WORKSHOP:
8 - 10 October 2018

This 3-day training will be open to professional artists who are interested in understanding how to use interactive theatre techniques to solve problems focused around a variety of social issues. During this workshop, participants will sharpen their storytelling and image building techniques and explore how different styles of presenting multiple perspectives can aid positive problem solving. Participants will also learn how to devise a short Forum Theatre piece and how to conduct a public Forum session.

In addition to the three-day training, the British Council will organise a five day training for abled and disabled artists. This training will be open to anyone- no acting experience necessary.

5-DAY TRAINING WORKSHOP:
11 – 15 October 2018

This 5-day training will be open to professional and non- professional artists who are interested in understanding how to use interactive theatre techniques to solve problems focused around a variety of social issues.

During this training, participants will sharpen their storytelling and image building techniques and explore how different styles of presenting multiple perspectives can aid positive problem solving. Participants will also learn to learn how to create a forum theatre play and during the final date we will culminate in a sharing of highlights from the week for an invited audience.

Forum Theatre is a participatory theatre practice created to empower an audience to become directly involved in the action of the story in order to solve problems that can determine social change.

Forum Theatre is one of the central theatre techniques from the ‘Theatre of the Oppressed’ movement which was founded by Brazilian theatre director Augusto Boal.

Unlimited: Making the Right Moves is an arts and disability programme arising from a common-sense idea that there are no limits for those who dream big, regardless of background or physical ability. The programme now includes workshops, educational forums and live performances. Since its inception in 2015 as a British Council programme, it has had a significant effect on the arts and theatre scene and on the lives of the disabled people living in the region.

Entrance to both training is free of charge but by registration.
