ARTIST TALK BY ERBOSSYN MELDIBEKOV:

YARAT Contemporary Art Centre is delighted to invite you to the artist talk by renown to a meeting with Erbossyn Meldibekov, one of the leading artists and sculptors of Central Asia. 

Further initiating cross border dialogue with a wide cultural voices YARAT will also launch of series of talks, screenings and discussions with artists from the CIS region (Commonwealth of Independent States) with countries formed after the collapse of the former USSR, the programme is entitled CIS Arts Circuit (CISAC). The CISAC will feature leading artists and practitioners from the region to share their work and projects with a view of establishing mutual cooperation within the regional arts community.

The title of "Eternal Return” refers in the first place to the specifics of Meldibekov’s work, whose art career is a never-ending dialogue with the cultural heritage. Search for traditional roots has been the main task for the artist from the beginning. It is the traditional culture that originates the author’s desire not only to change, but also to return and renovate. Finally “the return” – it is the key to understanding the historical fate of Central Asia, where, according to the artist, the historical processes not so much strain after the never-ending linear formation as motion in circle". (Research and art historian Victor Miziano).


Erbossyn Meldibekov (b. 1964) sculptor, author of installations, video and photo art works, was born in southern Kazakhstan, and currently lives and works in Almaty. He graduated from the Almaty Theatre and Art Institute (Department of monumental sculpture) in 1992. Erbossyn Meldibekov was represented in the "Postmonument» project at the 14th International Sculptural Biennale in Carrara (Italy) in 2010. He participated at 54th Venice Biennale in 2011 and demonstrated his works in the official pavilion of Central Asia. His works were also presented in the framework of the project "Between Heaven and Earth: Contemporary Art from the Central of Asia" (Forum Calvert 22, London) His works were exhibited in museums and galleries in Poland, Finland, China, Italy, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Russia, Ukraine and the United States.


The meeting will be held in Russian with translation into Azerbaijani
