012 Baku Public Art Festival Closing Ceremony

10 Nov 12

Afterword

Bakuvians have been extremely happy to have their eyes feast on the new artworks of the emerging Azerbaijani artists for almost six months in a row. The solemn closing ceremony of the cause of their joy - 012 Baku Public Art Festival – was held in the big hall of Nizami Cinema on Saturday 10th November. A movie by Rufat Hasanov, an emerging film director, Moscow High Screen Version and Film Direction Courses senior and Bates College Stage and Screen Faculty alumnus, became the background for summing up successful conclusions of the open air Festival. For many months the author of the movie had meticulously tracked down all activities of the artists involved, ranging from conception generation to the very presentation of the newly-made-art-objects. The movie is composed of short interviews with project participants as well as moments of live communication between the exhibition attendants and the artists. The fast-paced movie depicts the work style of YARAT Contemporary Art Space, which generates artworks through the best possible combination of authors, audience and modern life tempo.

Upon completion, the festival endowed the city with a refreshed image and managed to leave a sense of confidence not only in modern art’s capacity to routinely reproduce reality, but also in its aptitude for habitual environment transformation.
