Down the River / 2014 / Azerbaijan / 90 min / Drama / Colour
AlI, a rowing coach in a provincial little town, goes through a midlife crisis. His family is on a verge of a breakdown. He wants to leave his wife LEYLA for his lover SASHA, who works at the same school. SASHA persistently demands for ALI to accompany her to Poland, her native land, where they could start a new life together. It seems, ALI is prepared to finally yield to her demands.
Suddenly, a tragic event takes place. ALI's son, RUSLAN, drowns in a municipal water reservoir. ALI has to fulfill his parental duty, to find the body of his son that was carried down the river by the stream, and give it a proper burial. This would sever the only remaining connection between his wife and himself.
Every time a body of a drowned man is found somewhere down the river, ALI drives to the location to identify his son.
But everything is in vain, as RUSLAN cannot be found. In search for his son's body, ALI undertakes an extensive trip down the river. He has a lot of time to think and comes to certain conclusions and an eventual solution regarding his personal problems with two women.
In a sea port, inside a cold storage room for fish, ALI finally identifies another drowned man as his son, although it is clear to the viewer that this is not RUSLAN.
The film will be shown in Azeri
