Winter Season 2013 - 2014, featuring six short films


YARAT Conetemporary Art Space is proud to announce the the new winter season of Future Shorts, the world’s largest pop-up short film festival. This season's films are from France, Poland, Serbia, Finland and Afghanistan. It is going to be a truly international excursion into the world of 'shorts'.

In ten years of showcasing electrifying short films and film-makers from around the world in stunning venues, Future Shorts Pop-Up Film Festival have built the world’s largest community for short film fans – from Finland to Mexico, via Mongolia and Kazakhstan. In 90 countries, the world’s largest pop-up short film festival allows anyone, anywhere to run a film festival and be part of a global community.

1. That I’m Always Falling? (Que Je Tombe Tout le Temps?)

Director: Eduardo Williams

A young man in search of a seed emerges from the underground where he spends time with his friends. In their company he begins a long digestive journey. Featured in Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in 2013, Transcinema 2013, Belo Horizonte International Short Film Festival 2013, Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS 2013, as well as Festival International du Court Métrage de Lille 2013.

2. Out of Reach

Director: Jakub Stozek

Young and headstrong, sisters Karolina and Natalia are realistic about their home life. Their domineering father may not take care of them but they know any life with their mysteriously absent mother would surely be worse. In this award winning film, director Jakub Stozek follows the girls as they finally seek out their mother and come to terms with surprising discoveries. Honorable Mention Short Filmmaking Sundance Film Festival, Best International Short Documentary - Mexico City, The Golden Dragon, Honorable Mention in the National Competition – 50th Krakow Film Festival.

3. Blind Spot

A robber enters a small convenience shop to perform a hold-up. An old grandmother with bad eyesight is doing her shopping. 4. Rabbitland

Directors: Ana Nedeljkovic, Nikola Majdak

The Brainless Rabbits live in Rabbitland – the 'perfect' democracy. The Rabbits spend days voting on democratic elections, which take place in Rabbitland once a day, because Rabbitland is an ordered democracy. Crystal Bear - Berlin International Film Festival, Special Jury Mention Sarajevo Film Festival.

5. The Date

Director: Jenni Toivoniemi

Tino’s manhood is put to the test in front of two women when he has to host a date for Diablo, the family’s stud cat. Short Film Jury Award: International Fiction - Sundance, Berlin 2013.

6. Buzkashi Boys

Director: Sam French

Buzkashi Boys tells the compelling coming of age story of two best friends, a charismatic street urchin and a defiant blacksmith’s son, who struggle to realize their dreams as they make their way to manhood in one of the most war-torn countries on Earth. Drama: Best-of Category - LA Shorts Fest, Best International Short Film - Raindance Film Festival, Best Cinematography - UK Film Festival.
