DYNAMIC SPACES

The space must be conquered, even the air means resistance and must be overtaken by the dancers body.

During the five day program (3-4 h a day) the general question will be: "How much does/must the dancers body and the choreographic work relate to the space which surrounds him/it."

How much space can be defined by a choreographer? How does a choreographer creates space without necessarily using aspects of set design, lighting or other added subjects, than the dancers, he will be able to use.

Especially in the nowaday contemporary dance and dance-theatre aspects of stagework, the themes space and dynamic are one of the most important and fundamental tools, which a well crafted choreographer should know and being able to play with.

What does a use of different dynamic to space? How much does it effect the inner and outer awareness of the dancer himself being inside of the creative work. How much knowledge, forehand set up and support does a choreographer has to bring into his process. How much does the outer effect affects the observer, esp. the createur in his/her decisions?

With little etude-exercise, where the choreographers will get short tasks, the createur himself can try out with the given dancers (and other choreographers participating) about what kind of tools and methods he can use and what kind of effects he will possibly get.

In constructive and collaborating analysis after each session all the participants are able to communicate and discuss the results under the leadership of Jochen Heckmann.

Jochen Heckmann begins after college graduation in 1987 the professional dance training (Classic, Modern and education) in Germany firstly at a private academy, and goes then to Paris for two years with a scholarship, where he trains with Solange and Serge Golovine, Peter Goss, Martine Harmel and others to complete his training as a professional dancer.

Then he dances in various ensembles including the Paula Lansley (Contemporary Dance Zurich / CH), Richard Wherlock (Ballet Theatre Hagen/D & Lucerne Ballet/CH), Artnocorp and Movers (both CH) and in choreographies by Ed Wubbe, Itzik Gallili, Janet Smith, Nils Christe, Myriam Naisy, Jacqueline Beck, etc.
After founding his own ensemble LOOPING contemporary dance company in the summer of 1995 in Zurich he succeeds quickly in establishing himself in the Swiss dance scene and to work on a repertoire with full-length productions as well as completing successful tours abroad.
