BACARART 2014 PROJECT CHARITY EXHIBITION

10 Dec 14

YARAT Contemporary Art Space and the Azerbaijan Republic State Committee for the Affairs of Families, Women and Children mark the culmination of this year’s BACARART project with a major charity exhibition at the Art Garden Restaurant in the Old City on 10th December at 19:00.

In its second year, the BACARART project supports and develops the creative skills of children from disadvantaged and low-income families. The project aims to develop the creative potential of talented children from all areas of Azerbaijan. Artists including Ramal Kazim, Vusal Rahim, Sitara Ibrahimova and Reza Hazare took part in the project. Under their guidance, the young BACARART participants have mastered the basics of composition, drawing, collage and photography.

This year, the project has involved eleven areas of Azerbaijan: the regions of Goygol, Sabirabad, Ismailli, Zardab, Hajigabul, Zaqatala, Saatly, Qabala, Goranboy, Agdam and the municipality of Shuvalan. During the first phase of the project, fifty talented children and teenagers gathered in the two regional centres of Saatly and Goygol, organised by the State Committee for the Affairs of Families, Women and Children. Ten instructors from the Committee were involved in the process and supervised the work.

During the second phase, the participants continued to get to know each other at the summer school, organied at the resort town of Markhal (Shaki District). Over ten days they visited The Palace of Shaki Khans, situated just outside the town, The Gemsen-Geresen Fortress (18th - 19th centuries), The Dzhuma Mosque (18th century), The Kish Fortress and Mausoleum, The Yukhary-Chardakhlar Fortress (4th century BC - 5th century AD) and The Tower and Temple of Orta-Zeizit, as well as other architectural sites.

The picturesque landscape, the distance from the bustle of the city, and the relaxed atmosphere all contributed to help bring out the potential of each child.

As a result, 150 art pieces and over 80 photographs were produced; but for the official phase of the project, only the best 19 photographs and 41 art pieces were chosen.

The project will come to a close on 10th December at 19:00 at the Art Garden Restaurant in the Old City, where a major charity exhibition-auction will take place. The proceeds will be donated to the families of the thirty finalists, and will be used to further develop their talents.

The project participants will gather in Baku on the eve of the event. An exciting tour has been organised for them, during which they will see the historic parts of the city and visit the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center.

We invite you to visit the exhibition and support these gifted young artists!
