PHOTOBOOK WORKSHOP WITH ILKIN HUSEYNOV

CALL TO PARTICIPATE!

ARTIM Project Space is delighted to announce an open call for Ilkin Huseynov’s workshop PHOTOBOOK manual. 

We live in a digital era where communicating and generating images is easier than ever. But the ephemeral condition of digital information inevitably creates a desire to feel the image beyond the virtual; to touch and smell, to feel the shape and form, weight and sound. It is precisely for this reason that the photo books have gained such popularity in recent years, allowing artists for a new way of telling stories and increasing their visibility.

This workshop's aim is not to theorize about the meaning of photobooks, but to create an environment where each artist is given an insight into the field and is supported to make their first steps. The artists will work on their own material provided with tools to translate their projects into book forms, to communicate and distribute without intermediary or big budget.

The workshop will focus on the artists’ intentions, conceptualizations of their work and different ways of presenting ideas. The course will discuss the importance of the process, the materials and the object conception. Dialogue, debate and dynamic exchange between the participants will be encouraged.

At the end of the workshop the participants will produce their photo book dummies and will be given budgets to publish their photo books. The books will then be presented and sold at the Artim Project Space.

The workshop will be led by photographer and editor Ilkin Huseynov.

In November 2013 Ilkin Huseynov founded RIOT BOOKS* with Veronica Fieiras Under this label, he published his first books “Mühit” and “0000000"

*Riot Books (2013, Spain/Azerbaiján) is an independent publishing house of hand-made limited artist books with high social content. The collaboration with the artists is a very important part of the process for the editors. With little mediums, lots of work and learning through experience, they have won reputation inside the international photographic circuit, participating actively in the main photographic fairs and festivals. Latest book “You Haven't Seen Their Faces” was Winner of 2015 Photobook Award.  

Ilkin Huseynov is a freelance photojournalist, based in Baku, Azerbaijan. He works closely with organizations that seek social change in Azerbaijan and the surrounding countries. Huseynov's work has been published by major organizations such as Associated Press, InvisiblePhotographer, AFP, Reuters, Yahoo, Newshopper, CNN International, Globaljournalist and Media Paran. He was a finalist of Winephoto and Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation, and received second place in the PowerHouse Books competition. His current project is Hometown.

Requirements:

• Young photographer with interesting concept for a photo book with enough material
• Short concept of the intended project with 15 - 40 images
• Russian (Azerbaijani and English secondary)
