READING CLUB THE CITY: URBAN DREAMS AND REALITY

25 Jan 17

YARAT Contemporary Art Space presents in frame Reading Club event titled “The City: urban dreams and reality” on January 25th 2017.

We are proud to present 3 talented female authors – a young poet Anastassiaya Rubleva and aspiring writers Nika Musavi and Rena Aliyeva.

The texts that were selected for this reading speak to the modern man’s experience, echo his hope and way of thinking. We brought them together under the title of “The City: urban dreams and reality”.
Looking forward to have you for this reading!

Anastasia Rubleva was born and raised in Baku. She has been writing since the age of 9. She is known for her “Sandalwood bolter” cycle of poems. She beleives that poetry has a new awakening today, even though poets draw their inspiration from the same sources as many centuries before. Anastassiya thinks that the feeling of all-consuming love is at the core of poetry.

Nika Musavi is a writer and translator. Her attitude towards literature is best described by a British politician and writer Benjamin Disraeli who once said: “When I want to read a novel, I write one”.

According to Nika’s own statement, she considers life to be a long and confusing story that we have to write together with an “anonymous” author.

Everything she does in life is somehow related to writing. Her first collection of short stories was published in 2012. Nika proclaims, half in joke, that she belongs to a non-existent Order of Magical Realism.

Rena Aliyeva is a philologist by profession, a teacher by vocation and a writer by a soul’s calling and an irrepressible impulse to create. She writes short stories and poems as well as a column “13” for kid’s magazine. The posts features in Rena’s blog emanate her characteristic blend of playfulness and poignancy, deep sensitivity and funny observations from daily life. She also collaborates with Nargis magazine.
