YARAT Head Office,

Yarat is delighted to invite you to an open talk by Ludger Hovestadt that will take place on Thursday 23rd October 2014 at YARAT head office in Port Baku

Information technology is printing technology. Once conceived, it is reproducible at leisure, like a newspaper. For this reason it grows everywhere and quickly, unlike a mechanical system. As a result, we notice a net that gets rapidly tighter across the world, in which information - whatever that may be - dashes as electromagnetic phenomena around our planet at near light-speed; a net that is the basis not only for instabilities, but also for new stabilities that have increasingly begun to replace old order systems. Whereas our ancestors cultivated the land under the rhythms of the sun and built cities in its rays, today we are relinquishing more and more of our familiar and secure territories and so must learn to articulate what we find valuable.

Ludger Hovestadt has been Professor for Computer Aided Architectural Design (CAAD) at The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich since 2000. His approach, in broad terms, is to look for a new relationship between architecture and information technology. He aims at developing a global approach that relates to and interacts with developments in different fields such as politics, demographics and technology in our post-industrial age. He is the inventor of the digitalSTROM® chip and founder of several spin-off companies in the fields of ‘Smart Building Technology’ and ‘Digital Design and Fabrication’. A showcase of his recent work can be found in 'Beyond the Grid – Architecture and Information Technology. Applications of a Digital Architectonic'.
