YARAT WEEKLY TALKS: AYAZ SALAYEV

TALK TO US 

YARAT Contemporary Art Centre will provide a platform for a series of talks around our permanent collection and current exhibitions featuring artists, writers, musicians, researchers, entrepreneurs and others). 

We will ask public figures to share their opinions and express their thoughts about contemporary art and engage with the audience.  

We invite you to become a partner in the discussion and join the upcoming talk to be held on August 21, 2015. The next session will led by the art critic, actor and director Ayaz Salayev.

You’ll spend a memorable Friday evening learning to be more confident in expressing your views about contemporary art.


Ayaz Salayev (b. August 1, 1960, Baku, Soviet Union) is a film critic, scriptwriter, actor and director, known for “Yarasa” (1995), “Taxribat” (1990) and “Vahima” (1998) full-length feature films. He studied at VGIK (Russian State Institute of Cinematography). His documentary “The Father” (1989) featured his conversations with the daughter of Zeynalabdin Tagiyev, an oil millionaire and mercenary. His first feature “Yarasa” (“Bat”) premiered at the International Film Festival in Berlin and received several awards including European Jury Award from Angers European First Film Festival. 

In 1983-86, Ayaz Salayev used to host a popular “Retro” TV series where he reviewed some of the greatest creations of the world cinematography. The program is still remembered by many film fans. He currently teaches history of film in several Universities in Baku and continues to work for the Azerbaijani Academy of Science.
