ARTIST TALK BY SERGEY BRATKOV (UKRAINE)

YARAT Contemporary Art Space is pleased to invite you for a talk by renowned Ukrainian-born photographer and video artist Sergey Bratkov.


Sergey Bratkov is one of the leading artists to have emerged from Post-Soviet Ukraine. Deeply influenced by his Kharkiv origin, Bratkov works in radical realist style to address social taboos and confront ideological clichés. For many years the artist worked with Boris Mikhailov, eventually forming Fast Reaction group with Mikhailov, Sergey Salonsky and Victoriya Mikhailova in 1994.


Sergey Bratkov is travelling to Baku to hold To Be Surprised, To Surprise workshop with local emerging artists. The group is going to travel around Baku to produce a body of work that will result in an exhibition at the Artim Project Space. 


Sergey Bratkov was born 1960 in Kharkov, Ukraine. He graduated from the Repin Art College, Kharkov, in 1978 and then Polytechnical Academy (department of industrial electronics), Kharkov, 1983. Bratkov has been widely exhibited internationally including solo shows at the PinchukArtCentre, Kiev, MOCAK, Krakow, Aktuelle Kunst Haus der Photographie, Hamburg, Fotomuseum, Winterthur, Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art, Stedelijk Museum for Actuele Kunst, Ghent, and group shows including 54th, 52nd 50th Venice Biennales, II Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin, Manifesta5, San Sebastian, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, MUHKA Museum of Contemporary art, Antwerp among others.

His works are in the collections of MUHKA Museum of Contemporary Art, Antwerp, Museum of Photography, Boston, Zimmerli Art Museum, New Jersey, S.M.A.K. Museum of Contemporary Art, Gent, MAMM Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow, FRAC, Paris, Finnish National Gallery, Helsinki, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki, Fotomuseum Winterthur, Pinchuk Art Centre, Kiev, Ekaterina Foundation, Moscow among others.

Bratkov currently lives in Moscow and is the head of the studio Photography, Sculpture, Video at the School of Rodchenko.


The meeting will be held in Russian with translation into Azerbaijani
