YARAT announces programme for Art Ganja 2013

19 Sep - 22 Sep 13

Four-day contemporary art festival in Ganja, featuring renowned local artists

YARAT Contemporary Art Space and Taghiyev Group Co. are proud to announce the opening of Art Ganja Festival, to be held from 19th to 22nd September 2013. Though this festival, the creators and organisers hope to popularise the richly endowed artistic and material heritage of this ancient city and of the entire country of Azerbaijan.

The festival programme includes a series of exhibitions of Ganja-based artists or those who originate from the region. Ramal Kazim, Vusal Rahim, Elchin Valiyev and others from the contemporary art community are expected to take part at the festival. The picturesque canvases they have produced will be showcased in tents in the central square of the city, in front of the city's executive building. An open-air artistic photography exhibition is another top festival event to be held in Khan Baghi (the Khan’s Garden, a historical spot right in the heart of the city). The exhibition will display the best pieces created by the attendants of a one-week master class by Mr. Mir-Naib Hasanoghlu, the Chairman of the Union of Photographers of Azerbaijan, which reflects historical heritage as well as the current state of affairs of the city.

Master classes for children will happen on the second day of the festival, 20th September, and will bring opportunities for the creation of solo installations under the guidance of highly skilled artists. The festival programme also comprises contemporary poetry performances, an event during which emerging and skilled Ganja actors will recite verses by five current Azerbaijani poets. The poetry event will start at 5pm in a local trade centre and will continue in the Khan’s Garden at 7pm on the same day. The event on 21st September is of paramount necessity for the country, as it is precisely this year that Azerbaijan celebrates the 900th anniversary of Mahsati Ganjavi, the Middle Ages Azeri poetess. Art Ganja Festival will conclude with a jazz session in the Khan’s Garden.
