28 Sep - 27 Oct 14

The Island

A solo exhibtion by Rashad Babayev

On the 27th of September 2014 Baku Museum of Modern Art will host the solo exhibition “THE İSLAND” of Azerbaijani Artist Rashad Babayev.

The exhibition is metaphorically called The Island, as if it plunges the spectator into a world of Zen mysticism. Masterfully possessing the language of non-figurative art and without attaching great importance to household details, the artist aspires to achieve a rather intuitive comprehension of the whole and his pieces are distinguished with timelessness, fancy pointlessness and surprising simplicity. It seems that in his works Rashad Babayev is in constant contact with eternity.About thirty artworks and three installations will be shown at the exhibition.

Rashad Babayev was born on the 22nd of November in 1979 in Khachmaz. In 1997, he graduated International Faculty of American University and continued his education in Baku State University. In 2001, he graduated the Faculty of Law. Rashad was originally trained as a lawyer before starting to paint in 2000. His first personal exhibition was in 2004.Rashad is a member of the Union of Azerbaijani Artists. Since 2005 he has taken part in a lot of international exhibitions which hold in London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, as well as in the 55th Biennial. The artist's works are in Museum of Modern Art in Baku and at private collections. Since 2012 he has written scripts. In 2013 at the scriptwriters competitions, he got promo diploma of the Union Azerbaijani cinematographs.

The artist belongs to young generation and he seeks to develop modern Azerbaijani art with the older generation, herewith being saved relations with his rich, cultural heritage.
Creativity of subtle and slightly mysterious artist Rashad Babayev does not forbear a direct talk. Masterfully possessing the language of the non-figurative art and without attaching great importance to household details, the artist aspires achieving rather intuitive comprehension of the whole and his pieces are distinguished with timelessness, fancy pointlessness and surprising simplicity. Spontaneous application of paints and half-abstract forms, generated by imaginations and dreams of the colorist, transfers something mysterious and radiate internal light. It makes a viewer appreciate the works of the artist at his personal exhibition separately.
