STONE: HUSEYN HAGVERDI SOLO EXHIBITION AT BAKU MOMA

31 Oct - 01 Dec 14

Curator: Chingiz

The exhibition will presents 45 of his sculptures: a series of 7 relief tiles, a series of 9 rounded sculptures, 11 sculptures from the Requiem series, 8 sculptures from the Totems series, 10 sculptures from the Portraits series, 7 graphic works and a film.

Huseyn Hagverdi is a sculptor who has dedicated the most part of his creative activity to the material of natural and quality stone. As if the master sculptor discloses new secrets of the material every time he produces a new work, he enters into a dialogue with the material.

As Huseyn says, life itself is a source of inspiration. Thoughts about life make the author develop his ideas about paradoxes. This series of works, in the style of graphics, are the result. He combines two different subjects - he is trying to create new architectonic organisms, inspired by architecture and under the pressure of the everyday rhythm of a big megapolis, as well as the problem of person loneliness.

Absorbing these ideas and delving further into human nature, he understands that the atmosphere of this big city is a little unfamiliar to him. The distancing process of people from nature began many centuries ago. The paradox is that a person, by assimilating various technologies, gradually separates from the natural environment and, as a result, continues to think about the dilemma of loneliness by remaining in the captivity of his ambitious ideas.

Huseyn does not attach importance to the realities of everyday life, instead preferring the inner world reality of people. He creates various sculptures using sharp circles and defined silhouettes, thus he achieves his protest against general, fake art, forcibly perceived by people. Rebelliousness is one of the distinctive features of the artist’s character, which is identified in this way, and the secret of charismatic personality is formed around his artistic image.

By creating these works, the author transfers his mood and concerns to the viewers, as if they arise in front of us as self-portraits of the artist’s spirit. By using the nature of the stone, seemingly with gentle and easy strikes, he destroys natural integrity and mentally gives an opportunity for a viewer to develop their own ideas.
