FREESTYLE: FUTURESHORTS FILM FESTIVAL – SUMMER SEASON

YARAT Contemporary Art Space invites you to the FUTURESHORTS – largest short film festival!


The screening will be organized as a part of YARAT FreeStyle Program, an open platform for everyone who looks to engage creatively with a broad and diverse audience.


This festival covers 40 countries, 100 cities, 6 continents and offers 1,400 showings per year throughout the world.  During its ten years existence, the festival has gained the attention of movie fans over a huge territory from Finland to Mexico. The festival gives an opportunity for professionals and newcomers all over the world to become a part of an international cinematographic community. 


The Spring Season of Future Shorts includes 8 films:


1. LITTLE CUB - TOO MUCH LOVE

Dir. Lily Rose Thomas
Music Video/ UK/ 2017/ 4mins

Too Much Love is a modern day morality tale, except there is no moral really. Like a Groundhog Day where no lessons are learnt and nothing really changes.


2. MADRE

Dir. Smon Mesa Soto
Drama/ Colombia/ 2016/ 14mins

16 year-old Andrea leaves her neighbourhood in the hills of Medellin to attend a downtown casting call for a porno film. 


3. THE COMMITTEE

Dir. Jenni Toivoniemi & Gunhild Enger
Comedy/ Finland, Norway/ 2016/ 14min

A Nordic collaboration is taking place. Three delegates from Finland, Norway and Sweden are faced with the true challenges of democratic decision making – can they find a way to agree?

4. HALF A MAN

Dir. Kristina Kumric
Drama/ Croatia/ 2016/ 20min

Mia and Lorena are reunited with their father after he spent several months as a prisoner of war. The family will finally be back together, but will they be able to find happiness again?


5. HAIM - RIGHT NOW

Renowned for their energetic performances, HAIM are seen recording their new single ‘Right Now’ directed by Academy Award-nominated director Paul Thomas Anderson.


6. JACKED

Dir. Rene Pannevis

Waylen and Russell are car thieves, but when they discover something of immense personal value, they find themselves in a moral dilemma. 


7. LIGHT IN DARK PLACES: THE REFUGEE CRISIS IN GREECE

A short film documenting the grassroots response to the refugee crisis in Samos, Greece: the extraordinary acts of heroism seen in response to institutional failures.

8. OOR WALLY

Dir. Martin Lennon
Documentary/ Scotland/ 2017/ 12min

Eleanor is a mother of eight and granny of seven. For 16 years she has also been Wally the Warrior, Scotland’s most unique football mascot.
