YARAT Contemporary Art Space invites you to be a part of YARAT Academy 2019 – 6th block.
Description
YARAT Contemporary Art Space is launching the spring session of YARAT Academy. This year program starts in March and will last until May. The spring session will be devoted to the topic of “Poetry of visual art”. In the frame of the program, participants will get a chance to take part in lectures, workshops by lead by local and international experts as well as artist talks.

Laura Bianco – visual artist and filmmaker, YARAT Resident.
Laura Bianco – visual artist and film director. Graduated BA on Media Design and Multimedia Art from NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti Milano). Laura Bianco has a keen interest on syntezing video and poetry by practising this media in her visual art and films.

Simone Menegoi – art critic, independent curator, artistic director of Arte Fiera 2019
Simone Menegoi is a critic and curator based in Milan. He’s the coordinator of Per4m, the performing arts section of Artissima, the Turin Art Fair, and he contributes regularly to Artforum.
Since 2005, he has curated exhibitions in private and public spaces in Italy and abroad.
Recent exhibitions include The Camera’s Blind Spot, Extra City Kunshal, Antwerp, 2015; The Warm Stat- ues. Sculpture – Body – Action, 1945-2013, Museo Marino Marini (Florence), 2014; LE SILENCE Une fiction, Nouveau Musée National de Monaco, 2012; Bouvard and Pecuchet’s Compendious Quest for Beauty, David Roberts Art Foundation (London), 2012.

Faig Ahmad, artist
Faig Ahmed lives and works in Baku, Azerbaijan and graduated from the sculpture department of Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Art in 2004. He represented Azerbaijan at the nation’s inaugural pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2007 and participated in the show “Love Me, Love Me Not” in 2013.
Ahmed has exhibited his works worldwide including group and solo exhibitions in New York, Paris, London, Berlin, Rome, Dubai, Moscow and the UAE. In 2013, the artist was nominated for the Jameel Prize 3 at Victoria and Albert Museum in London. His works are in public collections including Los Angeles County Museum and Seattle Art Museum, and in private collections such as West Collection, Philadelphia, the collection of Beth Rudin DeWoody, New York City, Galila’ Collection, Brussels, Ranza collection, Rome, Jameel Foundation, London and H.H. Sh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, UAE.

Leyli Salayeva, writer and poet-performer
Leyli Salayeva is author of “Journey of Dilbar and Her Magic Spoon” children's book, two poetry collections in English - “Twelve Thirteen” (Twelve Thirteen, 2014), “Youtopia” (2016) and a poetry collection in Russian “Anabiosis ” (2018)
The poetic collection "Youtopia" received an honourable mention at the London book festival of 2016. The book "Travel Dilbyar and Her Magic Spoon" took the second place at the XIII International competition of countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) "Art of the book". Her verses and articles were published in magazines of Great Britain, the USA, Canada, Poland and etc.
Leyli Salayeva is a member of the Union of Azerbaijan Writers and a member of the Poetry Society in the United Kingdom.

Asli Samadova, independent curator and art manager
Asli Samadova is Milan/Baku-based curator and museum specialist experienced working with leading cultural institutions in Europe and USA on cultural diplomacy, education and exhibition projects (Victoria & Albert Museum, UK; GWU Textile Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, USA; Islamic Art Museum of Berlin, Germany; National Academy of Sciences, Italy, etc.).
Founder of MI Project Curatorial Initiative that promotes Azerbaijan culture and heritage. Owner of Ta(r)dino 6. Secret Location alternative art space that promotes international contemporary art and is a platform for experiments. Curator of Goethe-Zentrum Baku cultural projects.

Adnan Yilmaz, curator, writer, and educator who curated the 2018 edition of Art Projects at London Art Fair
Misal Adnan Yıldız is a curator, writer, and educator. Yıldız was the Director of Artspace NZ in Auckland (November 2014- June 2017). Previous to that he held the position of Artistic Director at Künstlerhaus Stuttgart in Germany (2011 – 2014). His curatorial approach is based on conversations with an interest in creating connections between studio processes, exhibition methodology and audience development. Currently, he is a PhD candidate at Hafencity Hamburg, and has been working on several exhibition and publication projects in Berlin.

Mendi Merzaban, artist and curator with nine years of experience curating and managing an internationally renowned Arab modern and contemporary art collection
Mandy Merzaban is an artist and a curator of modern and contemporary art with a focus on Arab modernism. Her research based practice looks at affect, memory and language through moving image, text and printmaking. Currently Mandy is a resident artist of YARAT.

Babi Badalov, visual artist and poet
Babi Badalov's pratice is a constant exploration of the limits of the language. He is particularly interesting in the way that language is able to isolate individuals from the people who don't share the same language. Thereby, the artist covers current geo-political topics that echoes his own personnal experiences.
Several Babi Badalov's artworks are part of international public collections such as Russian Museum in St. Petersburg (Russia), MuHKA Museum Contemporary Art Antwerp, Azerbaijan State Museum of Art in Baku (Azerbaïjan), Kunstmuseum of Emden (Germany), Martigny Art Museum (Switzerland), Oetcker Collection in Bielefeld (Germany), Arina Kowner Collection in Zurich (Switzerland) and Zimmerli Art Museum (New Jersey, USA).

Mari Spirito, Executive Director and Curator, Photocinema
Mari Spirito is Executive Director and Curator of Protocinema, a site-aware art organization commissioning and presenting exhibitions around the world, since 2011. She curated public talks for Beijing Art Summit, 2019; was faculty for Independent Curators International (ICI) Curatorial Intensive, Bangkok, 2018; Guest Curator, Alserkal Arts Foundation Public Commission, Dubai, with Hale Tenger, in 2018. From 2013 - 2018 Spirito programed Conversations for both Art Basel and Art Basel Miami Beach; served as International Advisory Committee Member for the Inaugural High Line Plinth Commissions, New York, 2017; was Curator and Director of Alt Art Space, Bomonti, Istanbul from 2015 to 2017; independently curated “On the Nature of Justice” exhibition and talk for Onassis Cultural Center, Athens, 2017, Advisor to the 2nd Mardin Biennial, Turkey, 2012; and Director of 303 Gallery New York, 2000 - 2012. She is on the Board of Participant, Inc, New York, and holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art, Boston.
Ahmet Öğüt, artist
Ahmet Öğüt is a sociocultural initiator, artist, and lecturer who lives and works in Berlin and Amsterdam. He is the Initiator of The Silent University, which is an autonomous knowledge exchange platform by refugees, asylum seekers. Working across a variety of media, Öğüt's institutional solo exhibitions include Happy Together: Collaborators Collaborating, La Galerie de l’Université du Québec en Outaouais (GUQO), Québec, CA (2019); Bakunin's Barricade, Kunstverein Dresden (2018), Hotel Résistance, KOW, Berlin (2017) and etc.
Ahmet Öğüt has recently received the Mondriaan Fonds Stipendium for Established Artists (2019-2021) and He is grant recipient from Foundation for Arts Initiatives (2019).
The artist co-represented Turkey at the 53rdVenice Biennale (2009).
